Joan (Stephens) Jones

Joan Stephens Jones, age 89 of Creston, passed away on March 28, 2023 at Margate Health and Rehab.  Mrs. Jones was born on May 29, 1933 in Creston, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Jones, parents, Joseph Spencer and Eula Jackson Stephens, one son, James Roy Jones, one grandson, Eric Presnell, and her siblings, Clayton Stephens, Jack Stephens, Joe Stephens, Francis Graham, Celeste Oliver, and Carl Stephens.

Joan enjoyed gardening, puzzles, reading, word searches, and watching Perry Mason and John Wayne on the television. She retired from Ashe County Schools working as a Teachers Assistant at Riverview Elementary and Blue Ridge Elementary.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tommy Stephens and Dr. Harvey Bauman.  Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three sons, Stephen Jones (Debbie) of Zionville, Jeffrey Jones (Bobbi) of Hickory, Terry Allen Jones (Kelly) of Hickory, three daughters, Karen Haar (John) of Concord, Donna Harris of Creston, Lorraine Presnell of Valdese, one sister, Wilma Gambill of Creston, one brother, Thomas Stephens of Creston, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to Margate Health and Rehab: 540 Waugh Street, Jefferson, NC 28640 or Medi-Home Hospice: P.O. Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640.
