Alice Johnson Turnmire, a devoted Christian and beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, earned her heavenly reward on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center. Alice was born on May 26, 1951 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Clarence and Georgia Bell Bowers Johnson.
Alice’s life was a testament to her hardworking, compassionate, and caring nature. While she was never afraid to share her opinions, her kindness and generosity left an impression on all who knew her.
Alice’s greatest joy was her family. She deeply cherished her children and took immense pride in her role as Nana. Her family was the center of her world, and she always made time for them.
In her spare time, Alice found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed puzzles and games, planting flowers, and canning produce from the garden. Her love for the NC Outer Banks and the tranquility of watching the ocean would always bring her peace. Alice also delighted in thrift shopping and had a collection of cherished keepsakes, which reflected her love for life’s small treasures.
She is survived by her husband Charles David Turnmire, her son, Bryan Turnmire (Sylvia) of Taylorsville, NC; daughter, Khela Dawn Turnmire of Creston, NC; sister, Debbie Cretsinger (Elwood) of Shady Valley, TN; and brother, Gerald Johnson of Coatesville, PA. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Cameron Turnmire (Allison) of Walkertown, NC and Ashlyn Turnmire of Taylorsville, NC; and a special niece, Mandy Hodge (Nathan). Alice is also survived by two special aunts, Mable Vannoy and Minnie Winters, as well as several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at West Jefferson Church of Christ at 2:00pm.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted.
Alice will be deeply missed but remembered for the love she shared and the beautiful memories she created. Her unwavering faith and fierce love for her family were hallmarks of a life well-lived, and you should always know, she “loved you more”.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth for their gentle and compassionate care of Alice and family.
