Anne Wallace

Anne Caldwell Wallace, 91, passed away on July 12th, 2011, from complications due to Alzheimer's. She was born to the late Lura Bell and Robert Hash Caldwell on November 23, 1919. Anne passed away in Dallas, TX, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the past two years. Anne graduated from Virginia-Carolina High School in 1939. She excelled at sports from an early age and was talented enough to receive two scholarships for basketball. She married Roy A. Wallace, a handsome soldier she met on the bus. They wed on September 25, 1944, in Hiddenite, NC, and lived most of their married life in Baltimore, MD. She is survived by her husband, Roy, 94, originally from Conover, NC. He was at her bedside as she slipped into eternal peace. Anne is survived by her two children: her daughter, Royce Leif Wallace Moran, of Dallas, TX; and her son, Gregor Keye Wallace, of Baltimore, MD. She has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, where she first attended as a child. Anne was employed early in life with the Social Security Administration, successfully advancing to a government security clearance position before giving up her career to raise her two children. Anne was a dedicated and loving mother and friend. She cared for several elderly friends over the years, as they had little to no family to look after them. She remained athletic and enjoyed a good softball game in the park. She was also avid about her crossword puzzles until Alzheimer's took that pleasure from her. Anne earned the admiration and respect of all who knew her. Viewing will be at Badger Funeral Home, 300 North Main Street, West Jefferson, NC, on Sunday, July 17th from 4 -7pm. Her service and interment will be at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 604 Martin Gambill Rd, Crumpler, NC, on Monday, July 18th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.  You may send and view condolences to the family through our website at, www.badgerfuneralhome.com.
