Basil Jones

Basil Jones, age 95 of Todd, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his home. Mr. Jones was born on Tuesday, January 3, 1928 in Ashe County, NC to the late Daniel Rubin and Pet Graham Jones. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Howard, Shirley, and DR, two sisters, Thelma and Mattie.

Basil’s dedication to his church, and his country left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Mr. Jones’ spirituality flourished by attending South Fork Baptist Church with his family. As he grew older, he felt a calling to share his faith and knowledge with others. For an astounding 50 years, Basil served as a devoted Sunday school teacher at South Fork Baptist Church. In his youth, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. When Basil returned home from his military service, he dedicated himself to another of his great passions: farming. His farm became a reflection of his strong work ethic and connection to his roots. Beyond his service, faith, and farming, Mr. Jones had a simple joy for life. He was an avid reader, always eager to expand his knowledge. In his downtime, he could often be found in his cozy armchair, reading or watching his favorite TV shows.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Joann Jones, two sons, Greg Jones (Jennifer) of Todd, Galen Jones of Lansing, one sister, Betty Nell of Greensboro, four grandchildren, Trevor, Adam, Katelyn, and Kaleb, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm at South Fork Baptist Church by Rev. David Cooper. Burial will follow in Graham Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 prior to the service.

Basil Jones' legacy is one of faith, service, and a genuine appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. His dedication to the Lord, his country, and his family, are all a testament to the well-rounded and faithful life he lived.
