Berniece Virginia Jones Howell age 97 of Lansing, NC, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center.
Mrs. Howell was born in Lansing, NC on December 6, 1908 to the late Walter Lee and Tennie Ashley Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband; Roger Denton Howell. She loved to sew and make quilts and share them with her many children. Her message to her family and friends was, "Look to the Lord and meet me in Heaven one day. You must give your heart to Jesus and live your life for Him. Get established in a Christian Church and serve the Lord until we meet again". Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalms. As a student she loved to study French and was blessed to graduate the 12th Grade with the help of her teacher and mentor Frances Weaver. Mrs. Howell would ride to school on her horse named Bonnie and helped her father by teaching while he harvested crops in the fall. She became a member at Ashley Chapel Methodist Church at the age of 14 and later served as the Sunday School Church Secretary.
