Betty June Bare Barker age, 84 of Jefferson passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Margate Health and Rehab. Mrs. Barker was born on June 24, 1938 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Larry Lee and Edith Lorene Howell Bare. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carlton "J.C. Barker", her son, Tony Barker, two sisters, Lucille McVey and Nancy Pugh, one brother, Jerry Bare as well as a sister-in-law, Nellie Bare.
Betty owned and operated "Betty's Antiques" in downtown West Jefferson for many years. She loved collecting and selling antiques as well as attending estate sales and shopping at other antique and vintage shops. In her younger years she worked at both Sprague Electric and Jefferson Apparel. She enjoyed working puzzles and going to horse sales and horse shows with her husband, friends and grandchildren. Mrs. Barker will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend and aunt, she will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Barker is survived by one daughter, Beth Jones and husband, David of North Wilkesboro, one sister, Sandy McGinnis and husband, John of Jefferson, six grandchildren, Melissa, Keith, David, Joseph, Buffy and Sandy, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Two brother-in-laws, Edward McVey and Bob Pugh, a sister-in-law, Loretta Bare and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 2:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Brien Severt, Rev. Guy Testerman and Rev. Lonnie Jones. Burial will follow in the Dickson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dickson Family Cemetery Fund in care of Sandy McGinnis; 4223 US Highway 221 N. Jefferson, NC 28640.
