Billy Ray Stansberry better known as Bill age 86 of Lansing died on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abington, VA. He was born in Ashe County on Saturday, April 28, 1934 to the late Wade and Rettie Miller Stansberry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by, two brothers, Jack Stansberry, Vaughn Stansberry, sister, Ruth Craven and son in-law, Wayne Dowell.
Bill served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958 stationed in Japan and the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion and past commander of the VFW post in Damascus, VA. Mr. Stansberry had a great love for his Country and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his cat Tom. He liked spending time with his friends playing Bingo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 2:00pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Larry Weed, Minister Danny Miller and Rev. Charlie McCoy with Military Rites by the US Air Force. Burial will follow in the Baugess Cemetery by Rev. Lloyd Day. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Badger Funeral Home. Current restrictions on the amount of people in the building will adhered to and mask will be required.
Mr. Stansberry is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Norma Buchanan Stansberry, one daughter, Shelby Dowell of Lansing, two sons, Jeffrey Stansberry and fiancée Trish of Gate City, VA and Colin Randall “Weed eater” Stansberry of Millers Creek, one sister, Maxine Weaver of Oxford, PA, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family respectfully request no food or flowers please, memorials may be made to the Baugess Cemetery Fund, c/o Jeffrey Stansberry, 341 Big Windfall Road, Lansing, NC 28643.
