Blanche Marsh

Blanche Virgina Marsh was born April 6, 1927 to C F Marsh and Callie Shatley Marsh. She passed from this life on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Forsythe Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke. Miss Marsh was known to most as Aunt Blanche, as she was fortunate to leave behind seven nieces and eight nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews. Aunt Blanche never married, nor did she have children of her own. However, she relished family and spent the majority of her life taking care of others. She nurtured her mother, Callie Shatley Marsh and father, Charlie Marsh in their home, until their passing. Aunt Blanche has left behind one sister, Mrs. Velma Poe of Laurel Springs, NC. Aunt Velma would call multiple times daily to check on her sister. We could hear and feel the pain in her voice as she realized she would not be able to travel the miles to Winston Salem to say goodbye to her sister. Many times we held the phone to Aunt Blanche's ear and just the sound of her voice would soothe and generate a response whereas; otherwise, she was nonresponsive. Aunt Blanche graduated from Nathans Creek High School on May 7th 1948. She was one often graduating seniors that year. Aunt Blanche was an intelligent individual and had a deep appreciation for the value of an education. She recognized all of her nieces and nephews' graduations and continued even as her great nieces and nephews began to graduate. She was one of the few people who continued to recognize moving from the eighth grade to high school as a milestone and would always show her admiration with a card and a small monetary reward. Little did she know how much this meant to all of us. Aunt Blanche grew up during the Great Depression and she knew how to appreciate all God's blessings. Aunt Blanche spent her entire career at Sprague Electric, retiring after thirty years of service. Through those years she formed many friendships with some lasting twenty years into her retirement closing with her death on Saturday. Aunt Blanche enjoyed her career, she doubly enjoyed her retirement. She traveled extensively with friends and family. She was an active member of her church family Welcome Home Baptist Church. Her relationship with Jesus was a foundational part of her life. She would always admonish us to live our lives pleasing to Him. She was an avid gardener and did lots of home canning. One of her favorite things to do was cook for her family and her Pastor. Her southern fried potatoes were to die for. Aunt Blanche loved to read. She inspired others to read and expand their horizons. Her very favorite Book to read was the Holy Scriptures. Funeral services will be held at 7 pm Monday, June 08, 2009 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson by Rev. Lonnie Jones and Rev.
