Bobby Joe Johnson, age 93 of Jefferson passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, on November 29, 1930 to the late, Vance Johnson Sr. and Sally Sturgill Johnson. In addition to his parents Bobby was also preceded in death by his son, Carey Joe Johnson, three brothers, Vance Johnson Jr., Jack J. Johnson and Raymond Johnson and two sisters, Grace Howell and Mamie Hardin.
Inspired by the call to defend freedom and democracy, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with distinction during the Korean War, one of the most challenging periods in our nation's history. Throughout his military service, Bobby demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience. His selflessness and sacrifice earned him respect and admiration along with the gratitude of a nation.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Bobby Joe returned home to North Carolina, where he built a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Johnson is survived by one brother, Mack Johnson Sr. of Jefferson, one sister, Irene Baldwin and husband, Vaughn “Crick” of Jefferson, grandson, Gregory Johnson of Alabama, cousin, Dickey Johnson and brother-in-law Jack Hardin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Badger Funeral Home from 2:00-3:00pm. Graveside Services will follow in the Jefferson City Cemetery by Rev. David Blevins with Military Rites.
In honoring Bobby Joe Johnson's life, let us also remember and honor all those who have served and sacrificed for our country, ensuring that their legacy of courage and patriotism lives on.
