Bruce Phillips

Tommy Bruce Phillips, affectionately known as Bruce, peacefully departed from this world on January 15, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by the warmth of his family at Kate B Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem. Born on July 21, 1944, to the late Earl and Ruth Taylor Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Janice Jones, Linda Taylor (Troy), brother, Jack Phillips, and son, Richard Phillips.

Bruce spent his formative years in Lansing, where he graduated from Lansing High School in 1963. Eager to pursue further education, he enrolled at Forsyth Technical College, setting the stage for a lifetime of learning and growth.

A dedicated patriot, Bruce proudly served in the Army National Guard, contributing to the defense of his nation with honor and commitment. His service was a testament to his strong sense of duty and loyalty.

Following his military career, Bruce ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing and managing a successful car sales company. His passion for automobiles extended beyond business; he genuinely loved the art of selling cars and building lasting connections with his customers. Bruce's friendly nature and genuine enthusiasm for his work left an indelible mark on those who crossed paths with him in the automotive world.

Bruce found solace and spiritual fulfillment in his faith. A member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church in West Jefferson, he was actively involved in his community's spiritual life. In Winston Salem, he also attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he continued to nurture his spiritual journey.

Beyond his professional and religious pursuits, Bruce was a loving family man, always cherishing moments with his relatives and friends. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support endeared him to many.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Myrna Shepherd Phillips, grandchildren, McKenna Phillips (Brandon Jones and son Jax Jones), and Ken Phillips, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Chadwell Phillips, sisters, Carol Payne (Ira), Gail Turner, Sandy Wilkins (Carl) and brother in-law, Glen Jones; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In celebrating the life of Tommy Bruce Phillips, we remember a man who embodied resilience, dedication, and a zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of service, entrepreneurship, and genuine human connection. Bruce's memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
