Burl William Hartzog age 81 of Fleetwood, NC, died Monday, May 15, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Hartzog was born in Ashe County, NC in the Idlewild Community on September 20, 1924 to the late John Vance and Sally Bedwell Hartzog. He was preceded in death by 17 siblings and was the last of the 18 children. Mr. Hartzog served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and was a proud veteran of World War II. He retired from the National Park Service, after 33 years of service on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was a faithful member and deacon at Old Fields Baptist Church, serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Old Fields Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Bill Burchett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Fields Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 17, 2006 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Old Fields Baptist Church, c/o Sally Walters, 5375 Idlewild Rd., Fleetwood, NC 28626.

Great Grandchildren: Mary Grace and Emma Hartzog, Chris Friesland, Malana and Matthew Hartzog, Ella and Clayton Hartzog and Brent Roten.
