View this Videotribute Cecil Conley Surber, age 79, of Crumpler, NC, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone, NC. Mr. Surber was born November 21, 1928 in Lansing, NC to the late William Virgil and Blanche Gilley Surber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Lou Gentry; and a niece, Linda Parisi. Mr. Surber was a member of First Baptist Church. He worked as a service manager for Ashe County Motors and was also self-employed as a refrigeration and appliance serviceman. Mr. Surber was an active member and former commander of American Legion Post 275 in Lansing, NC. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. His hobbies included woodworking. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC. Minister Danny Joe Farmer and Rev. Larry Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 7 pm ? 9 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Box 235 Lansing, NC 28643 Or National Kidney Foundation 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 Mr. Surber is survived by: His wife: Clara Farmer Surber. 1 son: Roger Dale Surber of Lafollette, Tennessee. 1 brother: John Surber of Delaware. 1 sister: Elouise Blackburn of Mouth of Wilson, VA. 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
