Charles Lincoln King age 82 of West Jefferson died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at his home. Mr. King was born in Ashe County on Friday, September 4, 1936 to Charles A. and Rosetta Powers King. He grew up in Lansing and graduated Lansing High School, attended Lees-McRae College and North Carolina State University. He went onto work with the USDA and then Beaver Creek High School as the Agriculture Teacher, where he would teach for 33 years. Following retirement he ran for the Ashe County School Board and won, and has served as Board Chair for around 20 years and continued to serve until his death. Total Mr. King has worked for the children of Ashe County for over 57 years. He was always involved with many different civic and community boards and committees. He enjoyed farming and was awarded the American Farmer Degree, and was one of the founders of the Ashe County Mountain Farm Life Museum. Faith was important to Mr. King, he was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee, past Treasurer and had been Sunday School Teacher since the 1950's. Mr. King always lead by example and was always the same every time you saw him.
Mr. King is survived by: his wife Donna Hardin King, one daughter, Linda Bennett and husband Gary of West Jefferson, one son Jim King of Warrensville, one sister, Betty Jewell Hilton and husband Rich of Colorado Springs, CO, one niece and one nephew also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Friendly Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Lee Beckworth, Rev. Rex Eldreth and Pastor Kevin York. Burial will follow in the Hardin Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Badger Funeral Home.
