Chester Robert Kelly Jr.

Chester Robert Kelly Jr., age 87, of West Jefferson, passed away on September 29, 2024, at the James H. Quillen VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN. He was born on October 7, 1936 in Grand City, Illinois to the late Chester Robert Kelly Sr. and Jesse Virginia Simpson Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Novella Brown Kelly, son, Gary Kelly, brother, Wayne Kelly, sister, Ramona Proffer, a grandson, Daniel Joseph as well as a great-granddaughter, Kelly Penley.

Chester proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he started his life-long career as a cross-country truck driver.

Mr. Kelly is survived by three sons, Chester Robert Kelly III "Bobby" of Illinois, Kevin Kelly of West Jefferson and Brian Kelly of Vale, three daughters, Piper Gibson of Lincolnton, Christie Tutherow of Lincolnton and Susan Joseph of Texas and one step-daughter, Joyce McGuire of Arkansas. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, 5 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Per Mr. Kelly’s request no formal services will be held, he is to be interred in the Mountain Home Veteran Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
