Clyde Smith Hart

Clyde S. Hart, age 91 of Jefferson, passed away on Saturday morning, December 14, 2019.  Mr. Hart was born October 7, 1928 in Ashe County to the late Fred Cox and Musie Duke Hart of Nathans Creek.
He was a faithful member and deacon of Bristol Baptist Church.  He was self-employed in several businesses, but mainly in the dry cleaning business, in Baltimore, Maryland.  He, along with his family, moved back to Jefferson, in the early 70’s, and finished his career at West Jefferson Wood Products.  He continued to work after retirement, at Badger Funeral Home and Ashe County Convenience Center.  Clyde was a loving husband, father, and step-granddad.  He loved playing rook with his friends, listening to good gospel and bluegrass music, and really enjoyed the church choir at Bristol.  He especially loved to work in his garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Ratcliff Hart, five brothers, Jewel (Helen), Sydney Ray, Ted (Nancy), Paul (Ethel), and Atha Hart, four sisters; Chola Mae (William Buck), Rita (Claude), Nina (Cliff) and Erma (James).
Mr. Hart is survived by his son, Craig Hart and wife, MaryBeth of Hendersonville, NC and daughter, Shirley Ann Martin of Todd, grandchildren, Robert Hart of Los Angeles, California, Mitchell Hart of Denver, Colorado, Nicholas Hart of Tucson, Arizona and Josh Roten of Glendale Springs, step grandchildren, Zachary Holladay of Chicago, Illinois, Josh and Megan Holladay of Mountain View, California, and David Holladay of Christiansburg, Virginia, step great-grandchildren, Emily, Sarah and Corbin Holladay.
Funeral services to celebrate Mr. Hart’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 20, 2019 at Bristol Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Rev. Lloyd Day.  Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am, one hour prior to the service at the church.
