David Martin Boyer, Sr. better known as Dave, age 86 of Lansing, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Mr. Boyer was born in Pennsylvania on August 20, 1936 to Earl Martin Boyer and Dorothy Troutman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sue Schmeck, Mary Spade, and Evelyn Anzelone, his son, David Boyer, Jr., and his wife Shirley Ann Rhodes Boyer. Dave and his wife Shirley retired in 2001 and moved to Ashe County from Newark, DE. He enjoyed ice fishing, doing stained glass work and was a member of the American Legion, Ashe Masonic Lodge, Oasis Shriners and Ashe Shrine Club. Mr. Boyer served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Lansing where he enjoyed singing.
Mr. Boyer is survived by: one daughter, Donna Boyer (Steve) of Middletown, Delaware; one son, Doug Boyer of Elkton, Maryland; two daughters-in-law, Susan Boyer and Joyce Boyer; one sister, Jeanette McCuster of California; one brother, Wayne Boyer (Janet) of South Carolina; one half-sister, Diane Wass of Elkton, Maryland; six grandchildren, Chrissy Jacono, David Boyer, Stephanie Boyer (Ted), Staci Boyer (Adam), Danny Lemmon (Beverly), and Kim Johnson (Rodney); ten great-grandchildren; special friend, Lena Rhodes; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Ashe Shrine Club, P.O. Box 244, Jefferson, NC 28640.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Joey McClure. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Military and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon prior to the service at Ashelawn.
