David Brown

Preacher David Richard Brown, age 82, of Fleetwood, NC, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his home. Mr. Brown was born in Jefferson, NC on Friday, July 23, 1926 to the late Robert Foster and Mary Viola Burkett Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Elijah Brown. Prior to being called to preach, he was a dairy farmer who loved farming and dairy cattle. He held a doctorate in Christian Ministry from Bethany Theological Seminary and was a member of Smethport Baptist Church. He always stayed true to the King James Version of the Bible. He enjoyed listening to gospel and classical music and golfing.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 2 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC by Rev. Lester Austin and Rev. James Sechrest. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday evening, June 11, 2009, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.  Preacher Brown is survived by: His wife: Myrtle Goodman Brown One daughter: Mary Holman of Marion, VA. One son: Douglas Wayne Brown of Fleetwood, NC.                 Four sisters: Rosealee Goodman of Jefferson, NC, Pauline Goodman of Union, Oregon, Ennice Jordan of West Jefferson, NC, and Ella Sue Grogan of Fleetwood, NC. Two brothers: Luther Brown of West Jefferson, NC, and Scott Brown of Malala, Oregon. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
