David "Cotton" Allen Howell

David "Cotton" Allen Howell, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, in Dobson, North Carolina. He was born on October 19, 1957, in Jefferson, North Carolina, to Loyd Joe and Martha Owen Howell. He was preceded in death by his father.  He was a man of great character and kindness, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Cotton was known for his hard work and dedication in every endeavor he undertook. He had an adventurous spirit, demonstrated by his love for hunting and collecting arrowheads. His passion for travel allowed him to explore new places and meet new faces, and he truly lived by the philosophy that one should never meet a stranger. Cotton’s warmth and willingness to help others made him a beloved figure within his community.

He shared a special bond with his dog, Buddy, and together they enjoyed many moments that highlighted Cotton's love for the simple joys of life. His caring nature extended beyond his personal pursuits; he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, showcasing his generous spirit time and again.

Cotton is survived by, his mother, Martha Owen Howell of Lansing, one brother, Don Howell of Lansing, three sisters, Peggy Desautel of Winston Salem, Sherry Cline (Jess) of Lansing and Lorri Bentley (Terry) of Valdese. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The community will have the chance to celebrate his life during the visitation held on August 25, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM officiated by Rev. Julian Owen and Rev. Casey McKenna. Both events will take place at Creekside Christian Church in Lansing.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Haw Orchard Cemetery.

As we remember Cotton, we reflect on the impact he had on the lives of those around him, cherishing the memories he created and the kindness he shared. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
