Rev. David Monroe Sexton, age 76, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Forest Ridge Assisted Living. He was born on July 25, 1948, in Ashe County to the late Ezekiel Z. Sexton and Virginia Bowers Sexton.

David honorably served his country in the United States Army and later in the Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Sergeant and served as chaplain. After his military service, he worked for Greene Construction and Ready Mix and retired after years of dedicated service.

A faithful servant of the Lord, David answered the call to ministry and served as a Baptist minister for many years. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and lived his life as a reflection of his faith.

David was an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed cheering on his team. He was also very active in his veterans community, serving with the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was proud to drive the van, ensuring that fellow veterans could get where they needed to go.

Mr. Sexton is survived by:  his wife, Ruby Testerman Sexton, two daughters, Angel Sexton Owen (Jeff) of Wilmington, Katharine Marie Royal of Williamsburg, VA; eight siblings, Polly Jones of Crumpler, Mack Sexton of Dobson, Edison Sexton of Jefferson, Mary Kate Roten of Hays, Emma Jean Sexton of West Jefferson, Joann Eller of Lansing, Judy Cereghino of Georgia, and Michael Sexton of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Christopher Royal, Brandon Royal, Larkin Owen and Presley Owen. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Orion Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Michael Carter with Military Rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 1531 Idlewild Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Rev. David Monroe Sexton will be remembered for his unwavering faith, kindness, and service to others. His legacy of compassion and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
