Denos Peter Marvin

Denos Peter Marvin, was born on September 7, 1931 in Port Jefferson, NY, and passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was the son of the late James and Constance Econopoly-Marvin.  Denos led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many.

After graduating from high school, Denos dedicated a part of his youth to serving in the US Navy as a radio operator on a carrier in the Mediterranean, showcasing his commitment to duty and honor.

Following his military service, Denos pursued higher education, attending college at Columbia University in NYC and at the University of the Americas in Mexico. It was there that he first laid eyes on the love of his life, Frances Dorantes, at a dance. Denos knew from that moment that she would be his wife. Their union lasted an incredible 67 years, filled with love, companionship, and shared adventures.

Denos's academic journey was marked by excellence, culminating in the attainment of two master's degrees. He dedicated a significant portion of his career to shaping young minds as a professor in California specializing in English and Literature. Denos' passion for education and literature left an indelible mark on the countless students he guided and inspired.

Upon retirement, Denos and Frances embarked on a new chapter of their lives, relocating to Ashe County, NC. Falling in love with the community, Denos made Laurel Springs his home for the past 35 years. He became an integral part of the community, actively engaging with others and fostering connections.

Denos regularly attended services at Peak Creek Church of the Brethren, where he found solace and a sense of community. He shared his love for writing and generously offered his assistance to students working to improve their Math and English skills. Denos' kindness, patience, and willingness to help others endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife, Frances Marvin; son, James Marvin and wife Joanna Martel-Marvin, and their daughter, Charlotte Marvin; daughter, Connie Hudson and husband, Les Hudson and their children, Edward Hudson and his wife Nicole, Daniel Hudson, Andrew Hudson, Mark Hudson and Chad Hudson, and their grandchildren, Frances “Frannie” Hudson, Drew Hudson, Jordan Hudson, Lauren Hudson and Gabriel Hudson.
