Doris Cearley Burchette, 79, of High Point, NC, formerly of Jefferson, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Born on July 9, 1945, in Jefferson, NC, Doris was the daughter of the late Paul Jackson Cearley and MargaretMarie Barton Cearley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, NC Highway Patrol Lt. Lloyd M. Burchette.
Doris graduated from Ashe Central High School in 1963 and had proudly claimed the title of Winston-Salem Journal Regional Spelling Bee Champion in 1959. She dedicated her professional life to serving her community, first as Clerk of Superior Court for Ashe County, then as Ashe County Tax Supervisor. Later, she transitioned into a legal secretary role, retiring from Johnston & Johnston Attorneys.
Doris was a woman of diverse talents and interests. As a devoted member of Laurel Oak Christian Church in High Point, she lived her faith in service and kindness to others. Her creative spirit found expression through watercolor painting with the Culler Senior Center’s group, where her vibrant work brought joy to all who knew her. A passionate gardener and plant lover, she cultivated beauty wherever she went. Doris had a sharp eye for treasures, delighting in yard sales and thrift store finds.
Doris also embraced her role as a “grandpoodle sitter,” lovingly caring for her furry companions, Charlie and Sophie.
Mrs. Burchette is survived by: her son, David Bare Burchette & daughter in law Teneicea Ellison Burchette of High Point, NC; granddaughter, Dr. Marissa Glose Burchette & husband Chris Glose of Deep Gap, NC; stepson Don Burchette of Fullerton, CA; stepdaughter Kaye Mannella & husband Gil Mannella of Pontiac, MI.
Her legacy of warmth, humor, and compassion hard work, dedication and determination will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at Laurel Oak Christian Church at 1001 Old Plank Rd, High Point, NC 27265 on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jerry Dowdy will preside.
