Doug Shepherd, beloved son, father and brother age 68 of Lansing went to be with the Lord, Friday, September 20, 2019 after a brief illness. He was born in Cecil County, Maryland on Tuesday, February 13, 1951 to “Lester Carl and Virginia Goss Shepherd May. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lois Wright Shepherd, and his brother, Daniel Melvin Shepherd.
Doug was a teller of tales and no tale was too tall. He enjoyed his morning stops at “the Station” for cups of coffee and daily conversation. He spent the rest of his days perusing his frequent stops. He could also be found hanging out under a shade tree with a fishing pole in hand. As a former truck driver he was quite proud when his son Doug followed in his footsteps. He cherished the many trips he took with him in the truck. Doug was also an avid sports fan. He loved NASCAR with Chase Elliott being his favorite driver, the NFL, always rooting for the Carolina Panthers and MBL being a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Another favorite pastime was sharing lengthy discussions about sports and politics with his daughter, Michelle. They were always discussing the merits of their favorite teams.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM by Rev. Russell Sheets and Minister David Lyalls. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Badger Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24th from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by his mother, Virginia May of Rising Sun, Maryland, daughter, Michelle Brooks (Shannon) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, son, Doug Shephard II (Heather Smith) of Fleetwood, sister, Donna Toliver (Joe) of Rising Sun, Maryland and brother, Jim May (Diane) of Bel Air, Maryland. 7 grandchildren, Skyler Dillard, Laken Blankenship, Sydnee Shepherd, Talarah, Chloe, Aiden and Emma Smith-Shepherd. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family c/o Badger Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., West Jefferson, NC 28694.
