Dwight Lee Taylor, Jr.

Dwight Lee Taylor, Jr., age 79 of Crumpler, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at his home. Mr. Taylor was born in Augusta, GA on May 22, 1941 to the late Dwight Lee Taylor, Sr. And Grace Rauton Taylor. Dwight was active in the faith community. He was active in Clowns for Christ, Gideons International, Promise Keepers, NC Baptist Men and volunteered for Samaritan’s Purse. He was a former member at St. Luke Methodist Church in Hickory and served there as Youth Director. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for the past 28 years, serving in the choir and in the past conducting the children’s sermons. Dwight was known for his sense of humor, and as his son said “ he was the biggest cut up, with a huge heart”.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 3:00 pm Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. Ken Jones and Rev. Russell Hart. Burial will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor will lie in state from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 prior to the service at Friendship Baptist Church; the family will not be present during this time.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carolyn Walker Taylor; son, Dwight Lee Taylor, III and wife Lori of Taylorsville; daughter, Melanie Taylor of Taylorsville; two sisters, Kathy Hodges and husband Phil of Spartanburg, SC and Diane Johnson of Charlottesville, VA; two stepdaughters, Karen Felice Bell and husband Darin and Sherri Lynn Powers both of Hamptonville; eleven grandchildren, Olivia, Alexa, Gracie, Victoria, Nathaniel, Brandon, Ryan, Kayla, Kallie, Cody, and Tanner; three great-grandchildren, Bentley, Emily, and Aubrey; several nieces and nephews also survive.
