Mr. Earl William Poe, Sr. age 91, of Laurel Springs, died on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson. Mr. Poe was born on September 26, 1920 in Ashe County, NC to William Jesse and Gussie Hunt Poe. In addition to his parents Mr. Poe was preceded in death by Sister, Kathleen LaPrad, Brother, Gaither Poe. Mr. Poe loved to work on the farm, watching the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves baseball and he enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, especially Ralph Stanley. Mr. Poe was known as a kind and gentle man. He was a member of Wagoner Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Dean Shepherd and Rev. Everette Little. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Mr. Poe is survived by: wife, Velma Poe of Laurel Springs, two sons, Earl William (E.J.) Poe, Jr. of Laurel Springs, and Gary Poe of Cornelius, NC; two sisters, Lena Cox of Laurel Springs and Ethel Davis of Crumpler; also surviving are one grandchild, John Michael Poe, and several nieces and nephews.
