Edith Hartzog Bare, age 84 of Jefferson, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Bare was born April 26, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Guy and Hazel Phillips Hartzog. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. Bare, daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bill Holman, sisters, Edith Faw and Eldreth Dillard, brothers, Johnny, Sammy, Larry and Ralph Hartzog.
Edith cared for and raised four generations, she loved her family tremendously, especially her great-grandson Nathaniel. She would spend hours talking on the phone with her sisters. Edith was a member of Old Obids Church and loved reading her bible and sewing. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her home-made custard pies and molasses stack cakes were her grandson's favorite. The beautiful rose bushes she grew were her pride and joy. The family also wishes to thank Medi Home Hospice for the great care Edith received.
Celebration of life services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Log House at the Old Smithey's Restaurant.
Mrs. Bare is survived by her special grandson, Travis Denny and wife Carol of Jefferson, great-grandson, Nathaniel Denny, brothers, Roger Hartzog of West Jefferson and Lee Hartzog of Knoxville, TN, sister, Toy Wyatt of West Jefferson, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family c/o Badger Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., West Jefferson, NC 28694.
