Ella Pennington Baldwin

Ella Pennington Baldwin age 93 of West Jefferson, passed  away Monday morning, March 4, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 23, 1930 in the Little Laurel Community to the late Clint and Lillie Jones Pennington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, three brothers, Blaine Pennington of Delaware, Arvel Pennington, Lowell Pennington both of Ashe County; four sisters, Pearl Coldiron of Delaware, Ruth Roten, Rosa Belle Miller and Zina Farmer all of Ashe County.

Mrs. Baldwin is survived by, her husband of 71 years, Dale Baldwin of West Jefferson, one son, Gregory Dale Baldwin and wife Jean of West Jefferson, one daughter, Barbara Lynn Baldwin of West Jefferson, one granddaughter, Delores Miller of West Jefferson and one brother, Bob Pennington of Delaware. Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Ella graduated from Riverview High School in 1949 and went to work at Ashe Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. On a night out at the movies she met Dale Baldwin whom she would later marry. After their marriage she left the hospital to help her husband operate the Parkway Theatre. In the 1970’s she opened Ella's Hallmark Shop, which she dearly loved. She enjoyed the people and helping them find just the right Hallmark Card. After 25 years she sold the store and stayed at home where she loved to feed and watch the birds. She was always a great help to her husband in his political office in West Jefferson. Mrs. Baldwin was a member of Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church and a member of the West Jefferson Lions Club.

The family gives a very special thank you to their own, Barbara Lynn Baldwin for the very special care she gave her mother during her illness, and to Jodie Stanley for her care above and beyond her caregiver's job.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church by Rev. Will Heyward and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in West Jefferson Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Badger Funeral Home.
