Mr. Elmer Riley Stewart age 89, of Creston, NC went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, July 29, 2012. He had been a resident of the Margate Health & Nursing Facility of Jefferson, NC. Mr. Stewart was born on July 15, 1923 in Creston, NC to the late Samuel Stewart and Emma Mae Stewart. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev.Tommy Stephens and Rev. Chris Goodman. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday evening, July 31, 2012 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Mr. Stewart is survived by, two sons: Jody Stewart and wife Katie of Mountain City, TN, Devern Stewart and wife Elizabeth of Mouth Of Wilson, VA, three daughters: Levene Hart and husband Jerry of Mouth Of Wilson, VA, Charlotte McCoy of Lenoir, NC, Roberta Campbell and husband Jeff of Flint, TX, 2 sisters: Rosa Maine of Trade, TN and Janetta Potter of Lenoir, NC. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Michelle Stewart of Mountain City, TN, Angie Norris and husband Billy of Deep Gap, NC, SSC First Class Robbie Mullis and wife Holly of Lenoir, NC, Travis Stewart and wife Allyson of Warrensville, NC, Adam Stewart wife Emily of Creston, NC, Brandon Stewart, of Fleetwood, NC, and Charity Campbell of Flint, Texas. 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. He also was proceeded in death by his wife Eyvonne Roark Stewart this past May 12, 2012, 4 brothers: Robert Stewart of Creston, NC, R. E. Stewart of Granite Falls, Delemer Stewart of Mtn. City, TN, Ronald Stewart, Creston, NC, Sister: Mae Thomas, Mtn. City, TN, Ruby Stewart, Creston, NC, and great-grandson Kody Mullis. Elmer was an avid Farmer and retired from Sprague Electric with 25 years of Service, Lansing, NC as a Security Guard and Boiler Room Foreman. He enjoyed wood working especially making bird-houses, apple crates and anything else he could cobble on relating to wood. He had a passionate love for life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved riding motor-cycles on his farm checking fences and attending to his cattle, along with working with his farm machinery, flea-marketing , attending his Church: Sutherland United Methodist. He lived his dream by touring the "West" with his wife and visiting the "Holy Lands." He was a man with a heart for God and loved sharing His word with others. His memories will forever be cherished by all of those who knew and loved him. He and his wife "Eyvonnie" are united "Together Forever" in Heaven and will be sadly missed. The family will be meeting at the homeplace on 131 Sutherland Road, Creston, NC following the graveside services on Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012.
