Doris Evelyn Blevins Lovelace, better known as Evelyn, age 84 of Jefferson, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Margate Health & Rehab. Evelyn was born August 19, 1933 in Ashe County to the late Luke and Dixie Barker Blevins. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her daughter Sherrie Ashley and infant daughters, Janice Kay and Audrey Jeanette Lovelace, brother, Paul “Bud” Blevins, and her husband, Odell Jackson "Jack" Lovelace.
Evelyn was a member of Shelter Baptist Church where she served many years in various positions; as janitor, church clerk, Sunday school teacher and choir leader. She wrote many Christmas programs and VBS lessons used at Shelter. She devoted her life to the Lord at a young age and through the years inspired many people both in and outside of the church.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. You can be assured that if she knew you, she loved and prayed for you.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Shelter Baptist Church by Rev. Mike McElhaney. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Friday at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lovelace is survived by:
2 daughters, Sandra Hamm of Jefferson and Charleen Edwards of Hillsville, VA, 3 sisters, Anna Hamm of Mission, TX, Glenna Hillenburg of Jefferson and Joan Vestal of Booneville, 1 brother, LeRoy Blevins of Lansing, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Scott Blevins Cemetery Fund.
The family will be meeting at the home place.
