Floyd Franklin Scott died Monday, June 16, 2008, in his home in West Jefferson, Ashe County, NC. Floyd was born September 29, 1926 in Ashe County, to Waddie Hester Scott and Ethel Houck Scott, the sixth of eight children. He grew up in Boone, NC where he met Addie Bingham who he subsequently married in November of 1943 in Baltimore, MD. They were together for 56 years until her death in April of 2000. Floyd is survived by his sister: Maude Scott Miller, his children: Carol Travis, Sharon Scott, and Steven Wayne Scott (wife, Robin), his grandchildren: Jason Lewis, Shannon Lewis Hilliard (husband, Jason), Joel Travis, Scott Travis (wife, Reane), Nathan Scott, Joe Scott, Aaron Scott, Logan Scott, Rachel Scott, and great-grandchildren: Grant Hilliard and Ryan Hilliard. He is also survived by his second wife of 3 years, Margie Scott, whom he married in February of 2005 his step children, Larry Scott, Steven G. Scott, Cathy Scott and Diane Absher. Floyd often stated that his best, true friend in life was the late Clyde Howell, originally of Ashe County.   Floyd moved to Baltimore, MD for employment at the age of 16. Floyd served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from Appalachian High School and attended two years at Appalachian State Teachers College, both in Boone, NC. He worked primarily in the aerospace manufacturing industry, in Baltimore and Philadelphia in the fields of inspection, planning and quality control. Floyd had many interests and hobbies and pursued these with the same attention to quality as in his work. Throughout his life he was active in the church serving in many capacities including Sunday school teacher and superintendent.   Visitation at Badgers Funeral Home, West Jefferson, NC on Wednesday, June 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and funeral services at Zion Methodist Church, Todd, NC on Thursday, June 19 at 2:00 pm.
