Gene Marshall Edwards age 71 of West Jefferson, NC, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Forsyth Medical Center.
Mr. Edwards was born on July 8, 1934 to the late Joseph and Myrtle Davis Edwards. He was preceded in death by his son; Larry Roten, and sister; Mary Edwards Bare. Mr. Edwards was very active member of the West Jefferson United Methodist Church. He was a member of the West Jefferson United Methodist Men's Group and was remembered for the wonderful gravy he prepared while volunteering. He also worked closely with members of the Ashe County Board of Commissioners and community leaders in creating a viable industrial park for the county. Mr. Edwards retired after many years in the lumber business. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kirk McNeill, Rev. Bob Roten, and Rev. Charles Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 31, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West Jefferson United Methodist Church, PO Box 826, West Jefferson, NC 28694 or to Segraves Care Center, 200 Hospital Lane, Jefferson, NC 28640.
