George Wayne Elliott, known affectionately as Wayne, was born on April 1, 1933, in Lansing, North Carolina, to the late George Washington Elliott and Essie Elliott. He peacefully departed from this world on January 31, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
Wayne was a devout member of Wolf Knob Baptist Church, where his faith in God was central to his life. He served the congregation as a dedicated deacon and Sunday school teacher, enriching the lives of many through his wisdom and devotion to the teachings of Christ.
Professionally, he dedicated 33 years of his life to Sprague Electric, later United Chemi-Con, where he excelled as a design machinist. Wayne's commitment to service extended beyond the workplace; he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He underwent basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was later assigned to the prestigious 3rd Armored Division.
Amidst his professional and military endeavors, Wayne's greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family. Whether gathered around the dinner table or embarking on outdoor adventures, Wayne cherished every moment shared with his loved ones. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and quick wit endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In Wayne's departure, the community has lost a pillar of faith, a diligent worker, and a devoted family man. His legacy of love, integrity, and service will continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.
The Elliott family expresses deep gratitude to Wayne's brother-in-law, Mark Emerson, and the compassionate staff at Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center for their unwavering care and support during Wayne's final days.
Mr. Elliott is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Virginia Emerson Elliott, one daughter, Charlotte Peak and husband Roger of Mouth of Wilson, one son, Michael Elliott and wife Tracie of Lansing, one sister, Julie Richardson of Lansing, one brother, Claude Elliott and wife Louise of Lansing, two grandsons, Joshua Peak and wife Kelly, Daniel Peak and wife Heather, five great-grandchildren, Jayna, Jace, Kaelyn, Aaron and Caleb Peak; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Brother Mitchell Mash and Brother John Hall. Burial will follow in Spencer Branch Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Wolf Knob Baptist Church, ℅ Cecil Roop, 891 Wolf Knob Rd., Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363.
Wayne's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
