Hassie (Lewis) Hicks

Mrs. Hassie Lewis Hicks, age 96 of West Jefferson, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hicks was born on November 13, 1922 in Ashe County, NC on Roundabout Road.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilton and Cisco Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ganes Hicks and 11 brothers and sisters: Bessie Jones, Edgar Lewis, Meredith Lewis, Kermit Lewis, Raymond Lewis, Mack Lewis, Leither Lewis, Roy Lewis, Jack Lewis,  Lennie Bledsoe, and Ora Lee Grogan.

Mrs. Hicks was a member of Warrensville Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, working puzzles, and gardening. She adored all of her babies and devoted her life to them. She ate dessert first, brought joy to her family and friends with her sweet smile and amused everyone with her quick wit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by one son; Wayne Hicks and wife Jane of Welch, WV and two daughters; Sue Hicks of Abingdon, VA and Cheryl Hicks of West Jefferson, NC.  She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Lisa Dolan, Scott Hicks, Wayne Hicks II, & Amy Gray; 11 great-grandchildren: Ashley Reed, Matt Hicks, Alexander Hicks, Zachary Hicks, Sam Hicks, Zachary Dickerson,  John Hargis, Chelsea Dolan, Rylee Dolan, Zoe Gray, & Holly Hicks; 6 great-great-grandchildren: Cady Reed, Nathan Reed, Nicholas Hicks, Autumn Reed, Caroline Reed, & Baby Boy Reed. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many loving friends who will all miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Warrensville Baptist Church by Rev. Wade Huntsinger. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Warrensville Baptist Church.
