Haynes "Junior" Baker

Haynes Junior Baker better known as Junior age 92 of Crumpler, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Margate Health and Rehab.  Junior was born on May 13, 1930 in Maben, West Virginia to the late Hanes Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Baker.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Baker and all seven of his brothers.

Mr. Baker served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954 (honorably discharged), and then continued in his position as a civil servant until 1960. He retired from West Jefferson Wood Products in 1992, after 27 years of service. Mr. Baker enjoyed many years as a cattle farmer and gardener. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Baker was a member of the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, where he was highly respected and beloved by his church family.

Mr. Baker is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Baker and wife, Nancy of Arden, NC, Mark Baker and wife, Stephanie of Chester, SC and David Baker and wife Dorrie of Todd, NC. Eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer (Will), Stephen, Brittany (Cody), Benjamin, Jessica (Anthony), Hannah (Corey) and Jonathan and four great-grandchildren, Elaina, Blaine, Lucy and Emily.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 US Hwy 221 North, Crumpler, NC 28617 by Pastor Ron Kelley.   The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 1:00pm two hours prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Healing Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
