Hazel Ettie Hurley Ham, age 100 of Lansing, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Hazel was born on March 25, 1925, in Ashe County, North Carolina, to the late Fieldon and Flossie Farmer Hurley. She lived a long and beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and creativity.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elzie Ham; stepson, Robert Ham; and siblings Doris Woods, Adeline Woods, Howard Hurley, Chester Hurley, and Nora Ham.
Hazel had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, cooking, crocheting, and quilting. A gifted crafter and avid antique collector, she filled her home with warmth and character. Her good sense of humor, quick wit, and generous heart made her a joy to be around. Above all, Hazel was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother whose presence was a blessing to her family.
She was also a dedicated member of North East Tabernacle in Maryland, where her faith and fellowship were a cornerstone of her life.
Mrs. Ham is survived by: son, E.J. Ham (Carolyn) of Camden, South Carolina; daughter, Bettie Dougherty (Floyd Fowler) of Lansing; three sisters, Retha Kimple, Reba Holt, and Estie Dickens; two grandchildren, Eric Jonathan Ham and Benjamin Ham; four great-grandchildren, Parker Ham, Ben Biondi, Austin Ham, and Neila Ham; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held.
