Hazel Pauline (Rash) Latham

Hazel Pauline Rash Latham, age 88 of Creston, died on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Margate Health and Rehab in Jefferson, North Carolina. Mrs. Latham was born on Saturday, June 28, 1930 in Ashe County to the late John Spencer and Mable Wheatley Rash. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Hugh “Bill” Latham; a son, Jack Latham; and a daughter, Leona Mullis.  Hazel was also preceded in death by two sisters, Earlene Eller and JoAnn Wood as well as her brothers; Edgar, Denver and Ray Rash.  Mrs. Latham loved gardening, caning and quilting. Mrs. Latham retired from Sprague Electric after 33 1/2 dedicated years of service.  She had a wonderful, loving spirit and always made sure no one left her home hungry.  Above all else she loved her entire family.

Mrs. Latham is survived by: two sons, Ivan Latham of Creston, Larry Latham and wife Shelia of Creston, two daughters, Donna Osborne and husband Wayne of Creston, and Shelia Baker and husband, Greg of Vale.  Four sisters; Edna Calloway of Todd, Imojean Ford of Mouth of Wilson, Sharlene Lewis and husband, Bob of Creston and Geraldine Klink of West Jefferson.  Nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Charles McCoy and Rev. Tom Stephens.  Burial will follow at a later date in the Roark Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at Ashelawn one hour prior to the service.

The family is meeting at the home of Donna and Wayne Osborne; 2790 Big Laurel Road in Creston.
