Helen Blackburn

Helen Haire Blackburn age 88 of West Jefferson, NC died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at the Glenbridge Nursing Home. Mrs. Blackburn was born in Wilkes County, NC on September 30, 1914 to Mack and Nora Greer Haire. She was preceded in death by her husband Raleigh Blackburn, sons Harold Dean and Raleigh Wayne Blackburn. Helen and Raleigh Blackburn were married for 70 years. Mrs. Blackburn was the oldest member of the Blue Ridge Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was secretary- treasurer of Blue Ridge Cemetery for many years. She had a great love of reading and sewing.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Francis, Rev. Dean Blackburn and Rev. James Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 27, 2003 from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Cemetery Fund, c/o Bill Watson, 1907 Park Vista Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Wanda and husband Bill Terry of Lenoir, NC

Brother: Carroll and wife Beth Haire of Winston Salem, NC

Sister: Irene and husband Lloyd Isaac of Lincolnton, NC

Daughters in law: Pat Perkins and Carolyn Blackburn

9 Grandchildren 10 Great Grandchildren 4 Step Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
