Hersel Scott

Hersel Weaver Scott, age 86 of Jefferson, NC, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at his home. Mr. Scott was born July 16, 1917 in Ashe County to the late Waddie Hester Scott and Lizzie Ethel Houck Scott. Three brothers preceded him in death: Charles H., John W. and William Stewart Scott.

Mr. Scott's family moved to Boone, NC after he finished the second grade. He later graduated from Boone High School. He moved to Moapa, Nevada and later to Salina, Utah. He married Florence Peterson in 1938. He enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer. After his enlistment he and his family moved to the Washington, DC area. They lived in Fairfax, VA., where he retired from Civil Service at the age of 65. They returned to Jefferson, NC, where they made their home in Sunnyside Park. Mr. Scott was an amateur artist and will be remembered for his beautiful paintings.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 10, 2004 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Rev. Bob Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites. The family will receive friends from 7:00 till 9:00 PM, Sunday, May 9th at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Daughters: Bonnie Joyce Gazaway and husband Andrew of Alpharetta, GA and Peggy Ann Smith of Cranford, NJ

Grandchildren: Jeffrey Scott Smith of Chester, NY, Jenifer Lyn Smith of New York and
David James Smith of Cranford, NJ

Great-grandchildren: Jake and Jessica Smith and their mother, Patricia Smith of Chester, NJ

Sisters: Beulah Miller and husband Hunter of Greensboro, NC and Maude Miller and husband Harry of West Jefferson, NC

Brother: Floyd F. Scott of West Jefferson, NC
