. Mr. James Cliff Jenkins better known as J. C. age 81 of West Jefferson, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his home. He was born February 1, 1929 to Edward Mitchell Jenkins and Pearl Beatrice Wyatt. He is survived by his wife Margaret Phillips Jenkins, two sons: Dr. Alvin P. Jenkins of West Jefferson and James Douglas Jenkins of Rhonda, NC, three grandchildren, Dr. Emily Jenkins Stopper of West Jefferson, James Luke Jenkins of San Diego, CA, Maggie Jenkins Simmons of Rhonda, NC, one great-grandson, Ezekiel Paul Simmons. One brother, Edd Jenkins Jr. of Jefferson, two sisters, Marcella Goodman of West Jefferson and Melba Phillips of N. Wilkesboro Mr. Jenkins was president of the first Shrine Club in Ashe Co. and served two consecutive terms as Master of Ashe Masonic Lodge 594. J. C. and Dean Hurley established the first garbage collection service in Ashe County. He was a private pilot and actively promoted the building of the Ashe County Airport. J. C. was a founding member of Ashe Rescue Squad and served with the West Jefferson Fire Dept. for several years. He was a very prominent business man in the town of West Jefferson for many years. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris. The family will receive friends following the service until 12:00 Noon. Memorials may be made to: West Jefferson First Baptist Church or Ashe Masonic Lodge 594.
