James Lee Snyder, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Watauga Medical Center. Jim was born on August 1, 1946, in Wilkes County, North Carolina to the late Zebulon and Dallas Royal Snyder. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Tommy Snyder as well as two sisters, Jane and Imogene.
A devoted husband and father, Jim's family was at the heart of his world. Jim was a proud veteran who served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service extended beyond his military duty as he remained an active member of the local VFW Post 7946, where his camaraderie and commitment shone brightly.
His community involvement extended to the West Jefferson Lion's Club, where he contributed his time and effort to various causes, embodying the spirit of generosity and compassion.
An avid runner, Jim took immense pride in being a part of the 50 States and D.C. Running Club, showcasing his determination and passion by participating in numerous marathons and other races, embodying the spirit of perseverance.
While Jim was a man of action, his faith was also of great importance to him, he attended Mountain View Baptist Church in Creston, North Carolina.
Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife, Judy Snyder, two sons, Greg Snyder (Lisa) of Gate City, VA, Alan Snyder (Amanda) of Charlotte, NC, one daughter, Angie Miller (Tony) of Lansing, two brothers, Johnny Snyder (Carolyn) of Wilkesboro and Mike Snyder (Becky) of Millers Creek. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Brian Weaver. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VFW Post 7946 in care of Bill Carter; 1102 Highway 16, Jefferson, NC 28640, to the West Jefferson Lion’s Club; PO Box 1321, West Jefferson, NC 28694, or to Mountain View Baptist Church in care of Richard Greer; 1926 Rock Fence Road, Creston, NC 28615.

James Lee Snyder will be dearly missed by his family, friends, fellow veterans, running companions, and community members. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing such a remarkable individual.
