Janet Chappell

On Thursday, February 25, 2010, God called Janet Hamilton Chappell, a loving mother, companion and friend home to take her eternal rest. Those who knew Janet were always touched by one of her jokes, some of her homemade cakes, or her canned goods, she may have given you to take home. She never met a stranger, she was a friend and a mother to all! Janet was born to the union of the late Effie Louise Reeves and the late Bill Fitzgerald in Crumpler, North Carolina. She graduated from Bristol High School and continued her education at Wilkes Community college in Nursing. Her career in Nursing was short-lived due to family obligations when she then became a homemaker until her death. Over the years she was an active member of Cox's Grove Baptist Church, where she also served on the Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Association. Janet Loved to cook, sew and garden. In addition to her mother and father, Janet was preceded in death by her brothers, William (Pete) Hamilton, Herbert Hamilton, Rex Hamilton and sister, Thelma Reeves. Janet leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Ira Chappell, one daughter, Michelle Merlos (Juan) of Crumpler, one brother, Randy Reeves of Crumpler, grandchildren, Theresa, Trinity, and Keaton Merlos of Crumpler, Detrich Reeves of Crumpler and Brittany Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA, special nieces, Ann Reeves of Crumpler and Janet Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA, special nephews, Thomas Hamilton of Crumpler, and Larry Wellington of Wilkesboro, a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Walter Kyle, Rev. Jimmy Brown and Rev. James Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Cox's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
