Jean (Killen) Sawyer

Jean Killen Sawyer, 91, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Village Care of King. She was born on August 1, 1931, in Ashe Co. the daughter of the late Joseph "Romey" Killen and Flora Mae Milam Killen. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister who will be missed dearly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ann Roland; two brothers, Joseph Killen and Woodrow Killen; nine sisters, Rose Lee Killen, Clyde Eller, Bessie Eldreth, Maude Eldreth, Grace Eller, Frances Bare, Louise Moses, Georgia Eller and Ruby Simmons.

She is survived by her children, Eddie Roland and wife Loretta of Independence, VA, John Roland of King and Brenda Veler and husband Richard of King; six grandchildren, Jennifer Roland, Lee Roland, Johnny Lee Roland, Ricky Veler, Carrie Roberson and Christy Boardwine; 7 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her loving twin sister, Nettie Jewel Dunn of Mountain City, TN.

A graveside service celebrating Jean's life will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:00 am at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
