Jerry Martin Brooks, age 81 of Lansing, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brooks was born in Ashe County, NC Friday, March 20, 1936 to the late Fred Washington and Lillie Jane Hurley Brooks. He was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother, Ray David Brooks and infant daughter, Wendy Louise. Mr. Brooks was a faithful member of Landmark Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. For years Jerry worked as a surveyor and real estate agent. In his spare time he enjoyed working in the garden and spending time outdoors. Mr. Brooks was a loving husband and loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed attending sporting events and other activities that his two grandsons participated in.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Brooks, Rev. Charlie McCoy and Rev. Fred Steelman. Mr. Brooks will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 3, 2017 from 6-8:00 PM.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Louise Barr Brooks, one daughter, Tina and husband Bill Key of West Jefferson, one brother, James Dale Brooks of Lansing, one sister, Dot Winklbauer of Silver Springs, MD, and twin grandsons, Caleb Austin Key and Jacob Benjamin Key of West Jefferson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Howell Hill Cemetery Fund in care of David Brooks, 2175 Bart Hurley Rd. Lansing, NC 28643. The family will be meeting at the home of Tina and Bill Key, 133 Walter Drive in West Jefferson.
