Joe Franklin Barnes

Mr. Joe Franklin Barnes, age 90, of Crumpler, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at his home.

Joe was born in Ashe County on October 14, 1934. He was a faithful member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. Joe was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to many. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillie Ruth Barnes, his son, Jimmy Barnes and wife, Kim of Crumpler, son-in-law, Herb Batrouny of Florida, one sister, Ruth Eller and husband, Warner of Crumpler, three grandchildren, Matthew Barnes and wife, April of West Jefferson, Ashley Barnes Church and husband, Alex of Fleetwood, Connor Batrouny of Colorado, three great-grandsons, Sawyer and Jackson Church of Fleetwood and Barrett Barnes of West Jefferson. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his father, Hilton Barnes and mother, Bessie Oliver Barnes, four brothers, one sister and his daughter, Teresa Lynn Barnes Batrouny. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Ashelawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Peyton and Rev. Chris Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30, an hour and a half prior to the service.
