. Mr. John D. Barker age 63, of Warrensville, NC died Monday, November 21, 2011 at Watagua Medical Center. Mr. Barker was born December 22, 1947 in Ashe County to Glenn and EuniceYates Barker. In addition to his parents Mr. Barker was preceded in death by two brothers: Jackson & Billy Joe Barker and one sister: Mary Lee Barker. We have lost a quite, gentle, soft spoken man who was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He was an Ashe County native who managed Roses Department Stores for 23 years, traveling over the southeast until coming home in 1995 to become a carpenter and building his own home and then retiring. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Sturgills Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday prior to the service. Mr. Barker is survived by: His wife: Freida Kay Barker 2 daughters: Greta Simone Barker Hamilton and husband Reggie of Wilkesboro & Jacqueline "Jackie" Victoria Barker Burdick and husband Pat of Bradyville, TN 2 brothers: Thomas Barker and wife Connie of Puyallp, WA & Benny Lee Barker and wife Jeanette of Warrensville 3 sisters: Polly Carpenter and husband Max of Rotonda West, FL, Florence Powers and husband Bob of Warrensville & Jane Holliday and husband Paul of Greenville, VA 5 Grandchildren: Destiny Travis, Spencer Travis, Cody Burdick, Mason Hamilton & Jake Burdick 5 Great Grandchildren: Gianna Craig, Payten Breslen, Gracie Barnes, Westynn Bresler & Makinley Barnes several nieces and nephews.
