John Gore

John Henry Gore passed away January 20th, 2010 at the age of 76 at Stone Oak Methodist hospital in Texas from complications of surgery.  He leaves his wife of 22 years, Lena (Price) Gore; his son, Dwayne Gore, two sisters, Edith Cullen and Wanda Fangmeyer; two brothers, Charles and Thomas; 4 grandchildren, 5 step children, 8 step grand children and many, many close friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Maggie; sons, John and Raymond; sisters, Mary and Lena; and brothers Lee, Mack, and Bill. Born August 18, 1933, John was raised in Grayson County, Virginia and Ashe County, North Carolina along with his 9 siblings. John spent over 30 years in Jefferson, North Carolina, later moving to Mountain City, Tennessee and finally to San Antonio, Texas.  John was a Navy veteran and became a welder soon after his discharge and for many years traveled to other continents as a welder. His last employer was an emergency vehicle builder in Jefferson, NC.   John could build or repair just about anything and did so often for so many of his friends. He was never afraid to tackle something new. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most would consider his ultimate passion music. He was an accomplished musician, specifically guitar and banjo. John, his wife Lena, and a few friends even traveled the area in a bluegrass/country band for many years.    John will be remembered as a loving and patient man, absolutely devoted to his family and ready at all times to help a friend in need. We will all miss his love, tenderness and kindness.  John was a member of Wagoner Baptist Church in Wagoner, NC.    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC by Rev. Gary Snow and Mrs. Terry Snow. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service at Ashelawn.   You may send and view condolences through our website www.ashelawn.com. Ashelawn Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
