John Kenneth Howell

John Kenneth Howell, age 79 of Jefferson, died Wednesday evening, February 6, 2019 at Margate Health and Rehab.  Mr. Howell was born Wednesday, April 12, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Wiley and Ola Pennington Howell.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Cerda, brother, Joe Howell, sister, Barbara Richardson, half-sister, Edith Bare and half-sister, Joyce Howell.  Mr. Howell enjoyed fishing, growing gardens and watching birds.  John would sell tomatoes at the Farmer's Market where he was known as the "Tomato Man".

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day.  Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Howell is survived and will be missed by his wife Nell Atwood Howell, two sons, David Howell and wife Sheila of Lansing and Jimmy Howell and wife Christine of Crumpler, one daughter, Janet Schoppe and husband Donald of Greensboro, three sisters, Virginia Barton, Wanda Shore, and Rosalee St. John all of Jefferson.  Three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
