John Ray Ring

John Ray Ring, age 72 of West Jefferson, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1950 in Ashe County to Thomas Henry Ring and Bessie June Sheets Ring. Mr. Ring was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilma Jean Ring, a son, Thomas Ring, and two sisters, Carol Calhoun and Rose Greer.

John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren. He worked at Oldham Saw Company until the plant closed, then drove a bus for Mountain View Elementary School. He attended Warrensville Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. Ring is survived by:  daughter, Shelly Church and husband Fred of Crumpler; daughter-in-law, Marti Ring of Glendale Springs; three grandchildren, Keagan Church, Jordan Church, and Jaxon Church; two brothers, Dale Ring of West Jefferson and Jerry Ring of Wilkesboro; one sister, Frances Greer of Jefferson; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Kirby McNeill. Burial will follow in the Claude Mash Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
