Joseph Donnie Scott

Joseph Donnie Scott, better known as “JD” , age 75 of Jefferson, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home.  JD was born July 22, 1949 in Ashe County to the late Joseph Howard Scott and Ruth Wilcox Scott. 

JD worked hard all his life. The last 44 years, he worked in the sawmill industry. He loved spending time with his family. When he wasn’t working, he spent most of his time riding his ATV in the mountains in West Virginia. He was always the leader of the pack and knew those mountains better than anyone. He loved for his family to go riding with him, but his most cherished memories were spent riding those hills with his grandson Kody - his pride & joy. 

JD was preceded in death by his father Joseph Howard Scott, his mother Ruth Wilcox Scott, his brother David Christopher Scott, and his grandson Kody Mullis. 

He is survived by his wife Mary Darnell Scott, two daughters, Angela and husband Keith Roten of Lansing, Heather and husband Brad Little of Jefferson, 6 grandchildren Breanna and husband Zach Walter of Lansing, Kensey and husband Nick Walters of West Jefferson, Brooklyn and husband Dawson Shepherd of Jefferson, Keegan Graham of Jefferson, Dylan Little of West Jefferson, and Natalie Little of Jefferson, five great grandchildren, Levi Walters, Kylin Walters, Oakley Walters, Stephanie Walter, and Samuel Shepherd.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Pastor David Blevins. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service.

The family would like to thank Derek McClure and the staff at Ashe Family Healthcare for always taking such good care of him and thanks to Medi Home Hospice for their compassionate care.
