Julie Ellen Jones Riddle age 96 of West Jefferson died on Friday at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Riddle was born on Sunday, June 11, 1922 in Ashe County to the late Emmett and Nola Miller Jones. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lawrence Riddle, four brothers Joe, Howard, John and Carl Jones, two sisters, Ethel Shoemaker and Hazel Jones. Julie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker for many years. Julie was a cafeteria cook at the Hanes Plant for many years. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and crafts. She loved her family very much and was always willing to feed anyone who walked into her home. Best Mam Maw Julie ever!
Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 26 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. George Grubb. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Riddle is survived by three daughters, Pheba Catherine Blankenship and husband, Scottie of Collensville, Virginia, Marie Bare of Hartley, Delaware and Betty Jo Sullivan and husband, Dean of Lansing; one brother, Rob Jones of Warrensville; five grandchildren; Pamela Carlise, Patricia Eller, Mary Sue Lowman, Bobby Sullivan and Mark Sullivan. Eleven great grandchildren, including Autumn Sullivan (her grandmother's loving caregiver), eleven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to "Meals on Wheels"- Ashe Services for Aging; 180 Chattyrob Lane, West Jefferson, NC 28694 or to Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Ashelawn Memorial Chapel & Gardens was entrusted with Mrs. Riddle's arrangements.
