Kasandra Leigh (Miller) Burks passed away after sunrise on August 11, 2022. She is survived by her husband Stephen Burks. She was born on February 21, 1956 to Calvin Miller and Cathleen Gragg Miller in Raleigh NC. Through her parents nurturing ways and because of her mother’s health challenges, Kay was a kind and patient care-taker. She was an alumna of Lees-McRae College, John Tyler Community College, and the Medical College of Virginia. She turned her passion into her profession, and worked in nursing at hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health. She also managed a dental office day to day. Later she worked at Lowes in the garden center, which allowed her to work with plants and flowers, a passion she shared with her parents.
She married Gordon J. Miniclier in 1977 and they had two children, Christopher and Karli. She was a wonderful mother who always put her children’s and their friends needs first. Later, she added a son-in-law, Bryan Meagher in 2013. Her grand-children include Isabelle Miniclier (11), Mara Miniclier (8), and Mya Meagher (6). She married Stephen Burks in 2005. Her step-children include Morgan Burks, Michael Burks, and Maggie Burks.
After her mother passed away, her father Calvin married Katrina Vannoy Miller and added 2 step-sisters Kina Jones and Sandy Gainy. She is proceeded in death by both her mother Cathy, and step-mother Katrina.
She is also survived by her beloved Miller and Gragg extended family.
The family would like to especially thank the 2nd floor nursing staff at Ashe Memorial Hospital for their unparalleled care and the support they provided to the family and Kay. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions for a fund for those staff members, AMH Foundation, In Memory of Kasandra Burks, 200 Hospital Ave., Jefferson NC 28640.
A memorial picnic for close friends and family will be held Friday August 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Ashe County Park, Lakeview Pavilion.
